Sali Herman provided the highlight of the Mossgreen sale on Monday night, with the cover lot 'Argyle Place' achieving a new auction record for the artist of $137,425 IBP against his previous highest price of $96,000 IBP.

The selling price for the top ten lots for the evening accounted for $567,625 of the $1.125M total for the sale.  The top priced lots to be put to auction failed to find buyers, with the Shead and Tim Maguires remaining unsold.

However some healthy results were achieved for Meadmore, Larwill and Audette - the latter proving to be highly successful in both the Mossgreen auction and gallery formats.  As expected the group of small Williams all fared well, achieving between $10,000 and $15,000 each. However the sound selection of Whiteley's did not receive the same sort of support.

The results for the sale of the Bleakley Collection was not as successful as would have been expected with many of the larger artworks failing to sell.  Some of the more unusual artefacts were well supported, as were many of the Asian pieces.  A small Thai Buddha sold for in excess of $8,000 - significantly higher than the pre-auction estimate.

Monday night was the first offering in a series of Mossgreen sales presented this month.   Mossgreen has presented all of the sales together in a bumper catalogue of monumental proportions, with eleven sessions offering items from an array of sources.  Other art offerings will be occur in coming weeks as feature in the catalogue and online.
