Born in Melbourne in 1943, Bill Yaxley was an itinerant worker in Australia, New Zealand, Europe and North America, and did not start painting until his mid-30s. He moved to an orchard in Queensland where he continued painting, holding the first of many solo shows in Rockhampton in 1969.
We have records of art auction sales by Bill Yaxley from 1994 and in total 28 works by the artist have been offered for sale, of which 20 (71%) were sold. The highest price recorded for the artist is $1,840 for Carnarvon Gorge sold by Christies in March 1996. No works have been offered for sale this year, and the last sale we have recorded for the artist was in 2020. Works by Bill Yaxley are held by the National Gallery of Australia, Queensland Art Gallery and Auckland Art Gallery.
