Ernest Vogel was born in Vienna, Austria, in 1909, and arrived Australia in 1913. He studied at Prahran Technical School, Melbourne, under Carl Hampel. He is a traditional painter of landscapes in oil, watercolour, pastel as well as a designer. He became known for his relief decorations and designed the interior of the Regent Theatre, Melbourne. His work is represented at the Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery, Launceston and other provincial galleries.
