About Peter Simpson
Peter Simpson was born in Muswellbrook, New South Wales, in 1951. After growing up in Sydney he moved to Melbourne in 1976 and in 1977 enrolled in a Bachelor of Arts (Fine Arts) at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT), followed by a Graduate Diploma in Painting at the Victorian College of the Arts (VCA), Melbourne. Working in oils and pastel, he had his first solo show in 1988 in Sydney. Further solo exhibitions in both Sydney and Melbourne have followed showing contemporary airport, maritime and landscape works. In 2009 he was a member of a nine artist group invited on a painting trip to the North Island of New Zealand.
The earliest auction listing we have for Peter Simpson is in 1998 and in total 14 works by the artist have been offered for sale, of which 12 (86%) were sold. The highest price recorded for the artist is $2,820 for Shoreline (Diptych) sold by Christies in August 2003.
