Peter Simpson was born in Muswellbrook, New South Wales, in 1951. After growing up in Sydney he moved to Melbourne in 1976 and in 1977 enrolled in a Bachelor of Arts (Fine Arts) at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT), followed by a Graduate Diploma in Painting at the Victorian College of the Arts (VCA), Melbourne. Working in oils and pastel, he had his first solo show in 1988 in Sydney. Further solo exhibitions in both Sydney and Melbourne have followed showing contemporary airport, maritime and landscape works. In 2009 he was a member of a nine artist group invited on a painting trip to the North Island of New Zealand.
