Born in Sydney in 1936, John Pointon is mostly a self-taught artist and is a modern traditional painter, working in oil, watercolour and pastel. Mainly self taught, he studied at East Sydney Technical College for a year. He has worked in commercial art and advertising, and has exhibited in Sydney, Brisbane and Surfers Paradise, as well as in San Francisco, USA.
We have records of art auction sales by John Pointon from 1978 and in total 98 works by the artist have been offered for sale, of which 70 (71%) were sold. The highest price recorded for the artist is $4,000 for Life's a Beach sold by Aust. Art Auctions in October 1989. This year one work has been offered for sale.
