Born in Christchurch in 1899, Evelyn Page (nee Polson) studied at the Canterbury School of Art, where she later became an instructor. A member of the Canterbury Society of Arts, she was one of 'The Group' which held their own exhibitions from 1927 in protest against the Society's method of selecting paintings for exhibition. She visited Paris in 1936 and her work was influenced by the French Post-Impressionist paintings she studied there.
The earliest auction listing we have for Evelyn Page is in 1988 and in total 231 works by the artist have been offered for sale, of which 139 (60%) were sold. The highest price recorded for the artist is $260,892 for Girl at a Coffee Bar sold by Webb's in September 2022. This year 11 works have been offered for sale. Works by Evelyn Page are held by the Christchurch Art Gallery, Museum Of New Zealand and a further two major public national galleries (see list below).
