Born in 1927, David Moore is best known as a photographer and painter. He studied and worked with Max Dupain in the 1940s and and then travelled to to London in 1945 where he worked as a freelance press photographer. He returned to Sydney in 1957 and set up his own photography studio and in 1973 helped establish the Australian Centre for Photography in Sydney. He held more than 50 solo exhibitions between 1953 and 2003 in Sydney, Melbourne, China, Korea and Japan. Retrospectives of his work were shown by Art Gallery of New south Wales, in 1988, and after his death in 2003 by the National Gallery of Australia in 2003 and the Art Gallery of New South Wales in 2005.

The highest price recorded for the artist is $42,955 for Migrants Arriving in Sydney sold by Menzies in November 2020. This year 9 works have been offered for sale.
