Born in Ipswich, England in 1941, Johnson studied at London University and was awarded a Fine Arts Diploma with an Honours Pass in Painting and Drawing, He settled in Australia in 1962 and became a full time artist in 1969. He travelled and worked throughout the UK and Europe in the late 1970s and early 1980s. He became known as an impressionist painter in oil, acrylic and watercolour and has exhibited in solo shows since 1971, in Brisbane and Suffolk, UK. In the early 1970s he won the Redcliffe Watercolour Prize and First prize at the Royal Brisbane Show. He now lives in New Zealand where he continues exhibiting.
