A New Zealand abstract painter, Jeffrey Harris was born in Akaroa in 1949. He received no formal art training. Harris started his career in Christchurch, moving to Dunedin, in 1969 where he developed his style from studying art books.. He worked briefly in the United States In the early 1980s, before moving to Melbourne 1986. After 14 years there he returned to Dunedin, where he still lives and works. He is largely self-taught and has painted full-time since 1970 having been mentored by notable New Zealand artists such as Michael Smither and Ralph Hotere.
