About Louis Frank
A landscape artist who painted in NSW in the late 1880s and 1890s. As well as an artist, he was the licenced publican at the Ballamac hotel in Coogee (renamed the Baden Baden) from 1887 to 1893. Louis Frank worked mainly in oils, using a pallet knife with dexterity. He frequently produced paintings with a European influence. Louis Frank exhibited at the Art Society of NSW from 1880 to 1885 and the Auckland Society of Arts and is represented in the National Library in Canberra. An auction sale of 100 of his paintings was held in the Pitt Street Rooms of James R,. Lawson & Little in December 1908. He died in 1923 and little is known of his life after 1900.
