Born in England in 1853, H. Edward Davies arrived in Australia as an infant in 1854. He became an artist and architect, and was the chief draughtsman in the South Australian Education Department. He became Honorary Curator of the Adelaide Gallery and Chairman of the Board of Management of the Public Art Gallery and Museum of South Australia.
