David Chen was born in China in 1961 and studied from 1981 to 1988 for a Bachelors Degree in Fine Arts from Nanjing College of Art and a Masters degrees in Fine Art from Nanjing Teachers University. He also holds a Graduate Diploma in Arts Education and is a qualified teacher. He taught Fine Art in University for several years in China and in 1988 he was appointed an editor at the Peoples Fine Art Publishing House in Beijing where he edited several art magazines. In 1989 the French Embassy in Beijing invited him to hold a solo exhibition, however the exhibition was cancelled and his work was banned as he endured the difficult political climate in China after the events of June 4th, 1989, resulting in him migrating to Australia in 1993. Since arriving he has won many prizes including the Camberwell Art Show 2013 winner for "Best in Show" and achieved the "Best in Show" in Victor Harbour 2011. He is a member of the Australian Guild of Realist Artists judging panel and has judged many art shows including the Camberwell Art Show in 2014.

We have records of art auction sales by David Chen from 2015 and in total 10 works by the artist have been offered for sale, of which 10 (100%) were sold. The highest price recorded for the artist is $7,130 for Sea Breeze sold by Elder Fine Art in December 2015. This year one work has been offered for sale.
